Your cabin for the week
From an hour in a tank to a week in the dark
If you know REST from North America, you probably know its short forms: an hour or ninety minutes in a flotation tank, or the chamber studies in which volunteers spent about a day in a dark, quiet room. A week of darkness is the same idea taken much further, and far fewer places offer it. One of them is an orchard in a Czech village of thirty people.
What puts most people off is not the darkness. It is the trip: a transatlantic flight, a country you have never been to, signs in a language you don't speak, and a village no taxi driver has heard of. The all-inclusive week takes that part off your hands. You land in Prague, someone you have already spoken to is waiting for you, and the only decision left is when to switch off the light.
What is included
Before you fly
- A call before you book. We talk through why you want to come, your health, and whether a full week suits you.
- Picking the dates. We find an available cabin that fits your travel plans, ideally around a flight that lands at a reasonable hour.
- Help with flights. We help you find a good connection to Prague, in business class if you prefer. You buy the ticket in your own name and pay the airline directly.
During the week
- Pickup at Prague airport. The drive to the cabins takes a little over an hour.
- A first talk with your guide before the light goes out, so you know what to expect and who to ask.
- A message to yourself. You record it before you go in and hear it again when you come out.
- A guide within reach all week. Someone is on the grounds the whole time.
- Vegetarian meals, fruit and drinks, brought to the cabin every day.
- Sleep tracking. A sleep analyzer records your nights, and you take the data and charts home with you.
- Coming out before sunrise, so the first light you see is the day returning.
- A closing talk with your guide about the week.
- A short video portrait, recorded after you come out, if you would like one.
- A certificate of completion for your week-long darkness retreat.
Going home
- Help choosing a hotel in Kutná Hora or Prague, if you want a night or two to rest before the flight. We suggest a few; you book it and pay for it yourself.
- The drive back to Prague airport.
- Help with the flight home.
What it costs
The all-inclusive week is 990 EUR. That covers everything we provide ourselves: the call before you book, both airport transfers, seven nights in the cabin, meals, guiding, sleep tracking, the talks, the video portrait and the certificate.
Flights, any hotel nights before or after, travel insurance and sightseeing are not part of the price. You pay for those yourself, directly to the airline, hotel or insurer, and we tell you roughly what they will cost before you commit to anything.
If you only want the cabin and will make your own way from Prague, a regular stay costs less. The booking form on the main page shows the current price for one, three or seven nights.
Questions about the all-inclusive week
Is the retreat itself any different from a regular stay?
No. It is the same cabin, the same darkness and the same guides. The all-inclusive week adds everything around it: planning, transfers, sleep data, the talks, the video and the certificate.
Can you book my flight for me?
We will work out the connection with you and recommend a specific flight, but you buy the ticket in your own name and pay the airline directly. That way the booking, your miles and any changes stay in your hands.
Does it have to be seven nights?
This option is built around seven nights, because that is what makes the long trip worth it. If you would like three nights, or more than seven, write to us and we will put together a price.
Can my partner come too?
Yes. You can each have your own cabin, or share one. Write to us and we will send you the price for two.
Do I need a visa?
US and Canadian citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days in the Schengen area, which includes the Czech Republic. Entry rules change, so check the current requirements, including the EU travel authorization (ETIAS), before you buy your ticket.
I am a public figure. Can you keep this private?
Yes. We treat every stay with discretion, from your first email and the airport transfer to the week itself, and we never talk about who has been here.
Is this a medical program?
No. It is a stay in darkness, not a treatment, and it does not replace medical care. Before you ask about dates, please read who this is not suitable for.
Ask about the all-inclusive week
Send us a request through the form on the main page. The link below takes you there with the all-inclusive week already selected. Nothing is charged and nothing is booked until we have talked and you have agreed to the dates and the price.
